Shorter stems and a narrower gather than the large, which makes it the one people buy two or three of rather than one of. It is also the easier of the two to send as a gift.
Cut from the Grosso rows and dried slowly in the dark. Grosso is the lavandin we grow for drying: long-stemmed, high in oil, and still fragrant next winter when a sweeter cultivar would have faded. The sweeter ones go to the kitchen instead.
Looking after it
- No water — dried stems rot at the base.
- Out of direct sun, which bleaches the purple and takes the scent with it.
- Run your fingers up the stems to wake it up again.
- It sheds a little. The fallen buds are perfectly good in a bowl or a bag.
