Melissa Lavender is a charming lavender variety known for its soft grey-green leaves and delicate pink flowers. Its fragrance is sweet, fresh and lightly citrus-like, giving it a gentle brightness that sets it apart from the deeper floral scent of Superblue Lavender.

It is an Lavandula angustifolia cultivar — English lavender, like Superblue — but the pink flower and the citrus note make it unmistakable in the field. Visitors nearly always ask about this row first.

Melissa is a lavender, not lemon balm

Worth clearing up, because the name is shared. Melissa officinalis is lemon balm, a completely different plant in the mint family, and it is often sold simply as “Melissa”.

Our Melissa is a lavender cultivar. If you are comparing labels or looking up a scent profile, that distinction matters — the two smell nothing alike beyond a shared hint of citrus.

Why there is never much of it

Melissa yields very little oil for the volume of flower it takes. That is the whole reason we call it the Treasure: a run that would fill several bottles of Grosso oil produces a fraction of that in Melissa.

It is not a marketing scarcity. It is arithmetic, and it is why Melissa turns up in our smallest-batch products rather than across the whole range.

We grow three cultivars and distil each separately, because blending them would flatten out exactly the differences that make each one worth having.

• Melissa — English lavender with a citrus lift, pink-flowering, smallest harvest. The bedtime one.
• Superblue — English lavender, sweet and honeyed, low camphor. The culinary one, and the gentlest on skin.
• Grosso — a lavandin. Bold and herbaceous. Best for drying, linen and rooms.
